2013 Juneteenth Activities

This year the month-long Juneteenth Celebration begins with a banquet on June 1 at the Convention Center.

This semi-formal banquet will host some 500 guest, an invited Guest Speaker (waiting on the reply from Senator Mark Pryor), State Representative George McGill and Fort Smith Mayor Sandy Sanders. Dinner will be served by Golden Corral and after the dinner and speakers, we open up the front doors and the dance floor; live music provided by Larry B. and the Cradle Rockers!

There is typically an annual Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremony at Elm Grove, headed by Doctor Ronald Myers, the founder of the modern Juneteenth movement. The flag-raising is normally the second event and usually in the second week of June. Details TBA!

The Juneteenth Summer Jam, the BIG CONCERT Series is June 7 and 8 this year. And the entertainment roster is larger and better every year! Gracing the Harry E Kelly stage will be THE BAR-KAYS, J-Holiday, Lil Flip, TWISTA!, Lil Wyte, Juvenile, Durty Kash, Slim, Durrough, Bobby Lopez and Tha Body! Hats off to Event Coordinator Greg Hershel and Promoter Cameo Sheppard!

The Community Juneteenth event is normally held the third weekend of the month, those days closer to the actual Juneteenth Holiday June 19. This event is normally Friday, Saturday and Sunday on both Hartgraves and MLK Park.
